One killed in late-night Barbour wreck
ELKINS — One person was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in a late-night single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in Barbour County this week.
Emergency crews were alerted to an accident on Elk Creek Road at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday, according to information released by the Philippi Volunteer Fire Department on Thursday evening.
When emergency personnel arrived on scene, they encountered two patients, including one that was unresponsive and entrapped, officials said.
One male patient was located outside the vehicle with severe injuries, and the entrapped patient had suffered fatal injuries, according to officials.
The identity of the deceased person had not been released at press time.
The male patient was transported to Broaddus Hospital to receive further treatment, while the medical examiner permitted crews to extricate the deceased patient, officials said.
Emergency personnel were on the scene of the accident for approximately two hours.
Other agencies responding to the scene were the Barbour County Ambulance Authority, Nutterfort Emergency Squad, the Barbour County Sheriff’s Department, and the West Virginia State Police.
The Belington VFD was alerted for an engine transfer to cover any additional calls.
