Barbour man accused of sexual assault

CRAIGSVILLE — A Barbour County man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly sexually assaulting a Monongalia County woman.
Jacob Byle Boyd, 34, of Craigsville, is charged with one count of second degree sexual assault, one count of second degree attempted sexual assault and one count of assault during the commission of a felony, all felonies.
He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $150,000 surety/cash bond.
According to the criminal complaint, filed by Deputy Daniel Boise with the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office, on Jan. 12, Boise was contacted by Sgt. Cunningham of the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office regarding a sexual assault that allegedly occurred in Barbour County.
Cunningham told Boise that the alleged victim had gone to Mon General Hospital after Boyd reportedly picked her up from a bar in Morgantown after the two spoke over Facebook Messenger, the complaint states. Boyd reportedly took the alleged victim back to his camper in Barbour County so she could “talk about her divorce.”
The alleged victim stated that Boyd did not seem interested in the conversation, and he then reportedly picked the alleged victim up and threw her onto the bed, the complaint states. Boyd then “forcefully undressed” the alleged victim and began “forcing (the alleged victim) to have intercourse,” according to the report.
The alleged victim stated that she repeatedly told Boyd that she did not want to have sex with him, the complaint states. After the assault, the alleged victim did not move from the bed due to not having transportation to leave and because she was “too scared to try.”
The next morning, Boyd reportedly tried to assault the alleged victim again, but found himself physically incapable of doing so, the complaint states. Boyd reportedly told the alleged victim to get dressed, to which she complied “due to her being scared.” The alleged victim said Boyd allegedly “held her down so hard” during the second attempt that she noticed bruises on her skin that were not there before.
After Boyd took the alleged victim back to her car in Morgantown, she went to a friend’s apartment and told them what happened, the complaint states. The alleged victim then went to Mon General Hospital to have a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) exam performed. During the exam, several bruises and scratch marks were reportedly found on her arms and legs.
The alleged victim told police that Boyd asked her several times to “not speak or tell anyone what happened,” the complaint states.
