Timberline Mountain guest dies

DAVIS — A guest died at Timberline Mountain resort in Tucker County on Sunday, officials said.

Timberline Mountain announced the death on social media at about 6 p.m. Sunday. The death is “currently under investigation,” according to the announcement, but few other details about the incident were released.

“It is with profound sadness that we can confirm the death of a guest at Timberline Mountain on Sunday, January 4th,” the Timberline Mountain resort post stated. “We want to extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones affected by this devastating loss.

“The incident is currently under investigation,” the post continues. “In consideration for the family’s privacy, we ask for your patience and understanding that we have no further details to share at this time.

“Our priority is always the safety and well-being of our guests. We would like to thank our ski patrol, mountain staff, and local emergency services for their swift and professional response. Our hearts go out to everyone affected, and we thank our community for their support in the wake of this tragedy.”

Timberline Mountain resort first opened in 1987. The resort closed in 2019 after filing for bankruptcy, but the resort was then sold and reopened in 2020.

The Parsons Advocate confirmed to The Inter-Mountain on Monday that neither the West Virginia State Police or Tucker County Sheriff’s Department were called to the scene of Timberline Mountain Resort after the incident

The Parsons Advocate said it spoke with both law enforcement agencies on Monday morning and that both stated they were not called to Timberline Mountain Resort about the death.
