ELKINS — The Tygart Valley United Way recently teamed up with a pair of auto dealers in the area to raise funds for the organization’s annual campaign.
Performance Chevrolet was the main dealership that stepped up and lent a hand to the Tygart Valley United Way. For every new vehicle Performance Chevrolet sold this past November, it donated $100 toward the United Way’s campaign.
At the end of the month, Performance raised a total of $4,000 that will go toward the campaign goal of $605,000, which will be distributed to local nonprofits. Harry Green Chrysler Dodge in Fairmont was the other dealership that participated in the fundraiser.
“We are so lucky to have partners like these dealerships who understand how important it is to support our local nonprofits and communities,” Regional Community Engagement Director JoLynn Powers said.
“These funds are distributed to more than 30 nonprofits in our region to meet the needs of our senior citizens, children, and families who may be struggling. Performance Chevrolet’s donation of $4,000 means a lot of food for families and other necessary services that people depend on.”
Tygart Valley United Way’s annual campaign will continue through the month of January. The organization is also offering free tax preparation in Elkins at the Randolph County Senior Center. To make an appointment with a tax specialist, call 304-366-4550.
The organization is continuing to push forward with its United For Kids Hygiene Drive for school-age children and host the free United Way 211 helpline.
United for Kids is a community-wide hygiene and personal care item drive that collects items for school pantries and closets in all five of the Tygart Valley United Way’s counties, which include Randolph, Barbour, Tucker, Marion and Taylor.
The 211 phone number provides resource information about food pantries, utility assistance, housing assistance, addiction treatment, health care and mental health counseling. United Way’s 211 helpline walks callers through more than 12,000 available resources in West Virginia, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
