Al Tucker was born in England and immigrated to America with his family in 1954, settling in New Martinsville at the age of 11. He would soon fall in love with West Virginia and the U.S.

Upon graduation from West Virginia University with an engineering degree, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. His military service took him to assignments across the U.S and to Southeast Asia, Germany, and finally to the Pentagon during the first Gulf War.

In 2004, he retired completely and with his wife Liva settled in Buckhannon. Tucker had planned a retirement life of golf, fishing, and travel sprinkled with a little bit of community-related work through Rotary and his church. Turning 70, he realized there was much more to life and he still had more to give. About that time, golf lost its interest, and he fell in love with photography.

From 2012 until mid-October 2020, he threw himself into his new passion with a focus on WV landscapes and nature. Wanting to share what he learned, he also threw himself into the Buckhannon Upshur Camera Club helping to make it one of the premier clubs in the state.
