ELKINS — The Randolph County Commission approved a funding request from the Tucker Community Foundation Thursday during its regular meeting at the Commission Annex.

The Commission unanimously agreed to provide $6,000 to the organization, which will use the money for its annual “Run For It” 2K walk and 5K run. The annual event, which raises money for nonprofits in 10 West Virginia counties, will be held in conjunction with the Leaf Peepers on Sept. 26.

“You guys always have a good turnout and the event is well-organized,” said Randolph County Commissioner Cris Siler. “You guys have done very well with it and I hope your success continues.”

Run For It was created in 2007 as a way to encourage healthy activities and support non-profits in the area. Since its inception, the event has raised $3.6 million through participant fees, sponsorships and awards.

In 2025, 19 teams consisting of 236 competitors from Randolph County participated in the event. Since 2013, the Randolph County Commission has pledged $69,500 to the event, which in turn has brought back $595,200 to the county. Last year’s pledge from the Commission of $6,000, generated $62,000 for local organizations.

Angie Pase, Tucker Community Foundation development director and Run For It event doordinator, and David Cooper, Chief Executive Officer for Tucker Community Foundation, gave an information presentation to the County Commission.

“You guys are not strangers to the foundation, and as you know, our foundation was founded in 1989 in Tucker County,” Pase said. “We have expanded our reach to now include 10 counties, Barbour, Grant, Mineral, Pendleton, Pocahontas, Preston, Randolph, Tucker, and Upshur counties in West Virginia, as well as Garrett County, Maryland.”

Pase said the Foundation continuously supports Randolph County through grants and scholarships that enhance education and expand access to opportunity.

“Our partnerships with local no-profits and libraries through initiatives such as our Run for It Program, not only foster community engagement, but also reflect our commitment to making a meaningful impact on the lives of those who call Randolph County home,” Pase said.

Pase said in addition to the money the county received from the Run For It event, Randolph County received $6,000 in 2025 from grant funding for three programs – Wonder and Grow Mindful Nature Experience Inc., the Rotary Club of Elkins, and the Elkins First United Methodist Church.

The Wonder and Grow funding went to the Randolph County Outdoors Program, while the Rotary Club money was used for its Little Dress Program. The Methodist Church funding went toward its Lunch with Neighbors Program.

In addition, Pase said the Tucker Community Foundation had an extra $20,000 in funding this past year, and that $5,000 of that money went to the Old Brick Playhouse.

The Foundation also handed out seven scholarships to Randolph County students in 2025, totalling $9,700.
