Barbour County set to receive $1M allocation

PHILIPPI — More than a million dollars in federal funding will be coming to Barbour County for new equipment for first responders, officials said.

The Barbour County fundings is part of the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) allocations for Fiscal Year 2026 announced this week by Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va.

“I am proud of these projects that will strengthen law enforcement and enhance public safety across West Virginia,” Capito said in a press release. “These investments reflect our continued commitment to equipping our community partners with the resources they need to protect and serve.”

Capito serves on the Senate Appropriations committee.

“By directing federal funding to critical projects throughout our state, we are helping ensure safer neighborhoods, stronger communities, and a brighter future for all West Virginians,” she said.

The $1,002,000 CDS allocation to the Barbour County Office of Emergency Mangagement in Philippi will equip first responders in Barbour County with dual band radios.

In another major local allocation, a $1.5 million CDS allocation will go to the Pocahontas County Commission in Marlinton to “establish a state-of-the-art facility that enhances emergency response capabilities within the community while addressing critical safety concerns,” the press release states.

Other allocations in North Central West Virginia include:

∫ A $310,000 CDS allocation to the Grant County Commission in Petersburg to purchase a new ambulance for EMS services in Grant County.

∫ A $263,000 CDS allocation to the Harrison County Commission in Clarksburg to “increase transparency, accountability, and member safety,” according to the press release.

∫ A $214,000 CDS allocation to the City of Clarksburg to fund cancer screening and wellness programs for firefighters in the community.

∫ A $1 million CDS allocation to the City of Fairmont to “renovate and revitalize the existing Watson Fire Station to include a new apparatus bay, staff quarters, and office space,” the release states.

∫ A $643,000 CDS allocation to Fairmont State University to equip Fairmont State’s police department with necessary resources to better detect, prevent, and address crime on and off campus.

∫ A $525,000 CDS allocation to the City of Morgantown for “a fleet of police cruisers which will replace an aging fleet.”
