ELKINS — No one was injured after a fire broke out at an Elkins residence early Tuesday morning, officials said.

The Elkins Fire Department responded to the structure fire at around 6 a.m. Tuesday, Elkins Fire Department Captain Tyler Harris told The Inter-Mountain. The fire was at a residence on West Main Street near Youth Health Services and the former Rivers Living Waters Ministries.

Harris stated that no one was home when the fire started and that no one was injured during the incident. He said the Elkins Fire Department was present at the scene for around two and a half hours Tuesday morning.

The fire is currently under investigation, though Harris stated that the cause of the fire was “not believed to be suspicious.”

The Elkins Fire Department could not comment on the extent of the damage done to the residence from the fire due to the on-going investigation, officials said.

An Inter-Mountain reporter who visited the scene hours after the incident observed damage to the residence, with several windows on the first and second floors having broken glass. Two windows appeared to also have frame damage and singe marks.

The Inter-Mountain reporter also observed that obvious singe marks could be seen on part of the residence’s paneling, and there appeared to be some damage to the back of the roof.

Yellow caution tape could be seen blocking off the residence’s front doorway.
