Police respond to Third Ward Elementary after ‘rumor’ reported

ELKINS – Police responded to Third Ward Elementary School Tuesday afternoon after an “unsubstantiated rumor” was reported, officials stated.

At 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the Randolph County Board of Education released a statement on social media regarding police presence at Third Ward Elementary Tuesday afternoon.

The statement reads:

“We want to inform our Third Ward Elementary School families and community that earlier today, an unsubstantiated rumor was reported. Out of an abundance of caution, local law enforcement responded immediately and worked closely with school administration to thoroughly assess the situation.”

“At no time was a credible threat identified. Law enforcement secured the school, and student dismissal procedures have been completed.

“The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority. We appreciate the swift response of our law enforcement partners and the cooperation of our school community.”

“Thank you for your continued trust and support.”
