Upshur man accused of making terroristic threats

BUCKHANNON — An Upshur County man faces a felony charge after allegedly making terroristic threats online against St. Joseph’s Hospital and a doctor.
John Michael Spaur, 65, is charged with one count of threats of terrorist acts, a felony. He is currently being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
According to the criminal complaint, filed by Sgt. Tyler A. Gordon with the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 25, the Sheriff’s Office was informed about “a number of concerning Facebook posts” allegedly made by Spaur. Upon review of the posts, Gordon writes that it became clear Spaur had become upset with St. Joseph’s Hospital and one of the facility’s doctors.
In one particular post, Spaur allegedly said “Don’t even try to f*** with him (referring to himself). If you do, you’re going to die so f****ing nasty. And something’s gonna fall on. You made me like that building while you’re in there,” the complaint states.
On Feb. 25, Spaur allegedly posted, “I’m gonna do something and it’s gonna take me a while to get it done. I think because I need to what I’m gonna do to you,” the complaint states. He also reportedly said “Riley, I’m gonna do something about what you’ve done to the hospital,” and “Aint more times mother life I can kill me. I just f***ing get try to get the hospital. Kill me and destroy them. You f****ing b****es.”
Also on Feb. 25, Spaur allegedly made a post regarding St. Joseph’s Hospital that said, “All kinds of stuff up around and told the burn, and then anybody come out of the shooting. That’s what they’re all done… Getting hold of you, oh my god,” the complaint states. The post also reportedly stated, “Wait till they see what john spaur does,” and “This is john sparring, letting you know. I’m gonna do something that you could believe that.” Spaur then allegedly posted, “…Oh, you’re gonna get a bad one.”
On Feb. 28, Spaur allegedly posted, “Is you ain’t gonna be laughing after bit,” the complaint states. Gordon writes that, during this time, members of the West Virginia State Police and the Upshur Country Home Confinement reportedly warned Spaur about posting violent or threatening commentary about any people or organizations on his public Facebook account.
According to the complaint, on March 25, Spaur allegedly posted, “Wait till you see the joy in my face. When you go down,” “And the reason I had respect in prison. If you f*** with me, I was gonna kill you,” and “Because I will take somebody with me.” He also reportedly said, “Now, you know why I haven’t killed anybody since I’ve been out,” “Good thing I don’t wasn’t to go back to prison I would kill myself first,” and “Never underestimate a mutherf****ed that will be deadly in prison.” Gordon writes that Spaur further wrote about intending to kill a man in prison for snitching on him.
Spaur also allegedly posted a photo of a noose hanging from a beam of an outbuilding at his residence in Buckhannon, the complaint states.
In early March, Spaur was charged with DUI-third offense and possession of marijuana after being pulled over for a traffic stop on Route 20 South.
