State of Emergency extended in 12 counties

Construction on Davis bridge to start in 2027

ELKINS — The reconstruction of the Davis Avenue Bridge will start in early 2027, officials report. The City of Elkins announced this week that the West Virginia Division of Highways had provided an update regarding the Davis Avenue Bridge project, which will reconstruct the more than 70-year-old bridge, which connects south Elkins to downtown. Official: Barbour mine evacuated, fire causing issues

VOLGA - A coal mine in Barbour County was evacuated Wednesday morning after carbon monoxide was detected at the site, and officials said Thursday the issues are likely being caused by a fire in the mine.      Officials evacuated the Longview Mine in Volga between around 3 a.m. Wednesday after a monitoring system indicated elevated levels of carbon monoxide within the mine, according to information released by Allegheny Metallurgical, the mine's owner.
