Otterbein United Methodist Church celebrating 75 years

ELKINS - The Otterbein United Methodist Church is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary at its current location on the corner of South Davis Avenue and 11th Street.     The church, whose members credit its longevity to generations of faith, generosity and dedication, was dedicated in 1952. It originated in Elkins, however, in 1899, when a growing community showed interest in organizing a Church of the United Brethren in Christ, led by the Rev. B.J. Taylor.    The Rev. J.H. Young leaving Augusta Heritage Center

ELKINS - The Augusta Heritage Center has announced that Executive Director Seth Young is leaving the organization after seven years of service. Young is stepping down to pursue a new professional opportunity, an Augusta Heritage Center press release states. Since taking over in 2019, Young has been the face and the voice of the organization. After guiding Augusta through the COVID-19 pandemic, Young helped the organization purchase the historic Wilt Building in downtown Elkins in late 2023. Emergency Responders Called to Fire

ELKINS - City of Elkins offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day. The holiday will change the trash collection schedule. Two council committees meet Tuesday, and applications are open for entry-level police officer testing Oct, 17. There will be no trash collection Monday. Customers whose regular trash day is Monday will instead have their trash collected Tuesday, Sept. 8. Crews will collect both Monday and Tuesday routes that day. As always, trash should be out for collection no later than 6 a.m.; this will be especially important Tuesday as crews work two routes in one ...
