Solomon ‘Sol’ Carr Jr.

Solomon “Sol” Carr Jr., 94, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2023, at his residence.
Solomon was born Aug. 2, 1928, at Wymer, West Virginia, a son of the late Solomon Carr and Stella White Carr.
He was twice married.
On March 10, 1950, he married the former Geraldine Armstrong, who preceded him in Dec. 31, 1989.
On June 4, 2004, he married Lois Kyle Carr, who preceded him in death April 18, 2020.
Surviving are two daughters, Gail L. Griffith of Maidens, Virginia, and Vickie L. Carr of Elkins; four grandchildren, Mark A. Griffith, Scott W. Griffith, Brian K. Griffith and Solomon Ray Channels; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Also preceding him in death in addition to his parents were 10 siblings, Irene, Sylvia, Opal, Georgetta, Virginia, Arthur, Leonard, Raymond, Todd and Curtis; his third daughter, Linda L. Channels on Jan. 1, 2017, and two sons-in-law, Walter Ray Channels on June 20, 2018, and Wayne Bennett Griffith on Oct. 13, 2022.
Solomon attended the schools of Elkins and was employed by Kelly Foundry until his retirement. Solomon loved church. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Chapel and was active in the building of and care of Faith Baptist Chapel. He later became a member of Tygart Valley Baptist Church recently attended Crystal Springs Community Church. Solomon’s favorite things about church were working with the youth and visiting shut-ins to share about Jesus. He was very active with the IOOF Lodge No. 116 of Elkins for several years where he held several positions, including Noble Grand. He was often seen working at the Buckwheat Feeds and making apple butter and helping with lawn and building maintenance at the I.O.O.F. Lodge.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, from the funeral home chapel, with Pastor Dave Collins officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
