Carl Ellsworth New, 76, a resident of Huttonsville, passed from this life Thursday, Feb. 9, 2023, in Elkins.
Carl was born Thursday, Aug. 15, 1946, in East Dailey, a son of the late Audie Ellsworth New and Mary B. Hogue New.
He had married the former Karen Sue Riffle, who preceded him in death in 2014.
Left to cherish his memory are three children, Consuelo Touchette and husband, Todd, of Fort Worth, Texas, Audie C. New of Temple, Texas, and Patrick New and wife, Elizabeth, of Huttonsville; grandchildren, Audie C. New II, Philip New, Chase New, Charles, Kelly and Craig New; great-grandchildren, Havyn and Myles New and Denali Arbogast; brothers and sisters, John and Mary Harmon, Jeff and Cindy Rider, Sharon “Sherry” Anderson, Charles and Betty New, Rodney and Lois New, Teresa New and Thomas New; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death besides his parents and wife were siblings, Robert New and Joseph New; nephew, Gregory Scott Harmon; niece, Sonya New; sister-in-law, Sandra New; and brother-in-law, Steven Anderson.
Carl proudly served his country in the United States Army and is a Vietnam Veteran. He had been employed in the construction business, drove a gas/oil truck for Guttman Oil and was a prison guard at Huttonsville Correctional Center. He was a member of the VFW and Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 812, Elkins West Virginia. Carl loved going to sporting events and sat in the same seat every time. He watched and supported whether he knew who was playing, but especially if it was his grandchildren playing. He enjoyed taking part in military events to support veterans, delivering food baskets and lots of toys to the ones in need.
Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Saturday, Feb. 18, 2023, from 11 a.m. until noon. At noon, members of HW Daniels Post 29, American Legion, VFW Post 3647 and the WV National Guard Honor Guard will conduct full military honors. Carl’s request for cremation will then be honored.
