Jack Sweeney

SWEENEY

Mr. Jack Sweeney, 87, a resident of Bowden, West Virginia, went home to be with his Lord on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 29, 2023, at his home. Death was following a period of declining health.

He was born Jan. 16, 1936, at Folsom, Doddridge County, West Virginia, a son of the late John C. and Amanda Hoskinson Sweeney.

On Oct. 16, 1956, he was united in marriage to the former Alice Elvena Barr, who survives at their home in Bowden.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Terry Barr of Florida, Dave Sweeney and wife, Susan, of Ohio, Daniel Sweeney of Bowden and Randy Sweeney of Ohio.

Additional survivors include one brother, Joe Sweeney of Dellslow, West Virginia; five grandchildren, Thad, Steph, Eric, Brandi and Sari; and five great-grandchildren, Jackson, William, Jake, Ashley Lynn and Brooklyn.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by eight siblings.

Mr. Sweeney graduated from the Doddridge County School system and was retired from the Weirton Steel Corporation after 37 years of employment, where he was a sheet mill worker and lift truck driver. Before moving to the Bowden area, Mr. Sweeney was a former member of the Mercy Baptist Church, being saved at the age of 50. Upon moving to this area, he and his wife became members of the Faithway Baptist Church near Belington, where he was currently serving as a church deacon.

Jack was a true outdoorsman. He loved hunting and fishing, especially bear hunting. First and foremost, he was a devout believer in Jesus Christ, and now is in his presence. Jack will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Friday Feb. 3, 2023, from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday Feb. 4, 2023, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the funeral hour, when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor David Canny and Pastor Downing Gregory officiating.

Interment will then follow in the Faithway Baptist Church Cemetery near Belington. The family asks in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Faithway Baptist Church Missions Fund P.O. Box 26 Philippi, WV 26416.
