Raymond W. Hamrick

HAMRICK

Raymond W. Hamrick, 92, a resident of Elkins, passed away Monday evening, January 30, 2023, at his home with his family by his side and under the care of WV Caring Hospice.

He was born Sept. 28, 1930, at Valley Head, West Virginia, a son of the late Novel Hamrick and the late Ethel Louk Hamrick.

On Dec. 15, 1951, in Elkins, he was married to the former Virginia “Gin” Roy, who preceded him in death Aug. 31, 2003.

Surviving are his children, Randy Hamrick and wife, Kim, of Elkins, Suzanne Cain and husband, Mark, of Elkins, and Brenda Riggleman and husband, Larry, of Beverly.

Five grandchildren, Austin and Dalton Hamrick, Jared Cain and Sarah and Haleigh Riggleman; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Norma Vandevender, who was one of his caretakers for the past three years, also survive.

Raymond was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Hazel Roy, Mildred Hannan, Watsa McCartney and Opal Simons; and four brothers, Mason, Richard, Dennis and Carl Hamrick.

He attended the schools of Randolph County and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War. He was employed in various positions, including the Conoco Gas Station, Monga Grocery, assistant manager of Coca Cola, Elkins Builders Supply, Western Maryland Railroad and retired from the City of Elkins.

He was a man of Faith and attended the Landmark Baptist Church in Elkins. He was a friend to many helping anyone he could. Raymond enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and family gatherings. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, from the funeral home chapel, with Dr. Ken Shiflet and Pastor Jack Howell officiating.

Interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Country Club Road.

Full Military honors will be accorded at the gravesite by members of the West Virginia National Guard Honor Guard Program, H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
