Violet Wandalee Hodges

She was born in Cassity, West Virginia, on Aug. 5, 1933, a daughter of the late George Marion and Lucinda Tenney Williams.

She is the last survivor of her immediate family.

Violet married Loren “Noble” Hodges on Nov. 9, 1950, and he preceded her in death on Nov. 28, 1977.

In addition to her parents and husband, Violet was preceded in death by two sons, Lewis “Louie” Hodges and infant son, James Stanley; one grandson, Brandon George; one great-grandson, Jayson Payne; six brothers, Foster, Ted, Marion, Odie, Jack and infant Charles; and five sisters, Gladys, Georgie, Texie, Daisy and infant Wanda.

Forever cherishing their memories of Violet’s faithful nature are three daughters, Sherry Harris and husband, Denny, Vivian Payne and husband, Ernie, both of Century 2, and Candy George and husband, Mark, of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Daniel Harris and wife, Angie, of Moatsville, Collette Harris of Buckhannon, Matthew Payne and wife, Sandy, of Boothsville, and Corbin George of Buckhannon; and four great-grandchildren, Dean and Loryn Harris and Kassidy and Isaac Kimble.

Violet was a member of the Tennerton United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was Christian by faith for all of her life. She volunteered for many projects at church, she helped with the Lions Club monthly dinners, their pancake feeds, apple butter making, and fall festival in the kitchen. Violet volunteered for over 20 years at the Parish House on Thursday bagging the groceries. Since 2011, she was just a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.

Family and friends gathered for visitation at Clutter Funeral and Cremation, located at 21 Elnora Circle in Buckhannon, on Monday, Feb. 20, 2023. Visitation will also be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, in the Rowan Memorial United Methodist Church located at 1585 Mabie-Cassity Road, Mabie, WV, 26278.

Funeral services will begin at noon in the church, with Pastor Stella Moyer and Pastor Dwayne Brown officiating. Interment will follow at the Rowan Memorial Cemetery in Mabie.
