James Robert Farley
FARLEY
James Robert Farley, 85, a resident of Elkins, West Virginia, departed this life Wednesday morning, July 19, 2023, at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, West Virginia. He had been in declining health.
He was born Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1937, at Parcoal, West Virginia, a son of the late Clemeth M. and Georgia E. Bailey Farley.
On Jan. 31, 1959, at Oakland, Maryland, he was married to the former Bobbie Lee C. Poling, who survives. They had celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, Bryant C. Farley of California; one brother, Jack Farley of Tunnelton; two sisters, Susan Ratliff of Webster Springs and Linda Kalvasmaki of Philippi; and his cat, Missy Denise Farley.
Preceding him in death are three brothers, Billy, Clemeth Jr., Max and John and Donald Farley; and three sisters, Margaret Robinson, Charlotte Farley and Jane Seale; and his grandcat, Tommy Boy Farley.
He attended the schools of Webster County and worked as a coal miner for 40 years, retiring from the Island Creek Coal Company. He was a member of Local 2478, United Mine Workers of America.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed playing softball while living in Preston County. He was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to many people.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins on Monday, July 24, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Final Rites will be conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
