ELZA
John H. Elza, 94, a resident of Whitmer where he made his home with his sister, Sandy, and Dwyer Judy, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2023, at Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown, West Virginia.
He was born Jan. 18, 1929, at Whitmer, a son of the late Bales B. and Edna White Elza.
On March 31, 1956, he was married to Mary Kerr, who preceded him in death Sept. 11, 1996.
He is survived by three daughters, Jane Frum (Larry) of Florida, Lonell Godfrey (Buck) and Ellen Owens; and one sister, Sandra Elza Judy (Dwyer) of Whitmer.
Two grandchildren, Jennifer Stiller (Brian) and Janet Erwin (John); several step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Barbara Linn Elza; three brothers, Tommy, Bales and Delmar Elza; and two sisters, Virginia Elza Vance and Shelva Elza Cross.
John was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany after World War II. He was a diesel mechanic and retired from Young Truck Sales in Canton, Ohio. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War of Harman and HW Daniels Post 29 American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman, who especially enjoyed hunting. he attended the Whitmer United Methodist Church.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until noon, Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023, at the Whitmer United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Sunday, from the church, with Pastor Steve Wymer officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens in Canton, Ohio, at a later date.
The family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Whitmer United Methodist Church, C/O Pam White, P. O. Box 93, Whitmer, WV 26296 in memory of John.
