Dick F. Simmons

SIMMONS

Dick F. Simmons, 79, a resident of Beverly, passed away Thursday, Nov. 2, 2023, at the Davis Medical Center.

He was born April 1, 1944, Dick was the youngest child of Ralph Wilsom and Rebecca Diana Simmons.

He grew up in East Dailey, West Virginia, and attended Beverly High School. He worked for The Operating Engineers out of Cleveland, Ohio, and in 1975 he went to work for Western Maryland Railroad. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed woodworking and made unique bird houses, shelves and furniture. He loved to read Louis L’Amour novels and watch old westerns, especially Wagon Train and Gun Smoke. In addition to his many hobbies, he had a great sense of humor and his grandchildren and great grandchildren loved spending time with him. He truly knew how to have fun.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Helen Carr and Ruth Gilmore; and brothers, Bob (Elsie) Simmons and Chuck Simmons. He married his first wife, Sharon Arbogast Martin, and had two children, Richard (Dawn) Simmons and Renea (Gary) Carpenter.

On March 6, 1982, he married his second wife, Sherill Fulton Simmons.

He built their home in Beverly, West Virginia, where they lived from April 1, 1984, until his passing on Nov. 2, 2023.

In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brother Bill (Janet) Simmons; sister, Millie (Truman) Bennett; sister-in-law, Judy Simmons; five grandchildren, Allen (Amanda) Simmons, Amber Simmons, Lauren (Jay) Lewis, Madisyn (Trent) McDaniel and Kaitlyn (Rusty) Cameron; 12 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Taylor, Mikaela, Jasmine, Dakota, Jayla, Quin, Ryleigh, Abi, Jesse, Alora and Luna; and his Bengal Tiger cat, Maxx.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be at held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, with Rev. Brian L. Seders officiating.

Interment will follow at Elkins Memorial Gardens.
