Freddie ‘Fred’ Lee Hornick
								HORNICK
Freddie “Fred” Lee Hornick, 87, a resident of Beverly, West Virginia, passed away Aug. 19, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family under Hospice Care.
He was born June 19, 1937, in Bowden, West Virginia, a son of the late Jesse and Elsie (Fansler) Hornick.
On July 21, 1956, he was married to Norma Bennett, who survives. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on July 21, 2024.
Also surviving is one daughter, Debbie (Chris) Cullen of Castalia, Ohio; and one son, Tim (Brenda) Hornick of Elkins, West Virginia; two brothers, Wayne Hornick of Beverly, West Virginia, and Frank Hornick of Summersville, West Virginia; one sister, Carolyn Pingley of Beverly, West Virginia; and one brother-in-law, Bernard Bennett of Elkins, West Virginia.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Ashlee Cullen of Sandusky, Ohio, Seth (Kelly) Hornick of Elkins, West Virginia, Jordan (Jackson) Schaefer of Monroeville, Ohio, and Jessica (Anthony) Severino of Elkins, West Virginia; 10 great-grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, Sophia, Graham, Reese, Harper, Beau, Brantlee, Jax, Nico, Dawson, and Ivie; two step-great-grandchildren, Audrey and Sawyer; and several nieces and nephews.
Proceeding him in death besides his parents are two sisters, Nancy Srnsky and Loretta Bennett; and one brother, Gilbert Hornick.
Fred loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was involved in various horse events and was named the WV Team Roping Champion in 1994.
He was also involved in primitive activity where he built muzzleloaders and participated in several shooting competitions on the east coast. In 1985 he was named the WV State Champion archery shooter. He enjoyed playing golf at the Elks Country Club. He was a Little League coach for many years for CC Keys and Tygarts Valley Cable, where he and his teams won many championships, and he had the privilege of being a Little League All Star coach. Fred was the superintendent of the City of Elkins Water Department from the 1960s-1972.
He was a volunteer fireman and scuba diver for the Elkins Fire Department. During the Forest Festival, he volunteered for the City Police and worked as secret service when the presidents would visit. Fred partnered in starting Tygart’s Valley Sanitation, Inc. and then became sole owner and operator of the business for over 52 years. Tygart’s Valley Sanitation, Inc. is still a family business today.
The family will receive friends at the Summit Church, 245 Martin Street, Elkins, West Virginia, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
Final Rites will be conducted from the church, Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at 11 a.m.
Pastor Kevin Jones and Pastor Ron Phillips will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, West Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to WV Caring who graciously took care of Fred and his family in his final days or to Elkins Little League at P.O. Box 1784, Elkins, WV 26241.
