James Martin Phillips
								PHILLIPS
It was with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of James Martin Phillips, affectionately known as Marty, of Fairmont, West Virginia, left this earth on July 17, 2024, at the age of 53, after a long battle with cancer.
Marty was a bright spark in this world, with his infectious humor and uncanny wit. He will be deeply missed by many.
He was born February 5, 1971, the son of James H. Phillips and Ruby A. Phillips of Elkins, West Virginia.
He leaves behind a wife, Dawn; his son, Hal; and daughter, Jayme all from Fairmont, West Virginia; his oldest son, Adam, and his grandson, Noah, both from Belington, West Virginia.
Also, his sisters, Gail Gonzalez Phillips of Waynesboro, Virginia, Ada Greene Phillips of Mt. Solon, Virginia, and Joyce Phillips of Roanoke, Virginia.
Marty is also survived by two close lifelong friends, Wayne Shahan of Philippi, West Virginia, and Eric Aitken of Belington, West Virginia.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Ruby; as well as his step-father, Leon Healey; his sister, Alice Phillips; and older brother, Frank Phillips.
Marty was a graduate of Fairmont State University with a bachelor of science degree in psychology as well as an associate’s degree in LPN Nursing.
He was a proud member of the armed forces, honorably serving in the U.S. Army from June 1988 until October 1996.
Marty loved spending time with family and friends around a roaring fire, playing video games, whether it was on his Commodore 64 from the 1980s to the newest update for World of Warcraft.
He was constantly sharing memories and laughter with all those that loved him, as well as a chilled shot of Peach Crown Royal.
To celebrate his remarkable life and friendship, in the spring of 2025 his family will be having a Celebration of Life for Marty.
