Delbert Cecil Mace Jr.

MACE

“Del,” 86, as he was know to many people throughout his life, passed away on Aug. 20, 2025.

Del was born in Junior, West Virginia, and attended the EUB church where he received his calling into the ministry, met and married his first wife, Betty Joan Mace (Dycus), his high school sweetheart, who proceeded him in death on Sept. 7, 1981.

After his retirement, Del and his wife, Linda, became members of the Freewill Baptist Church, where they were involved in many of the church’s organizations and celebrations.

He will be missed by surviving children son, Daniel and his wife, Barbara Mace, of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; stepson, David and his wife, Ursula Groot, of Canton, Michigan; and son, Steven and Kristy Mace and their son Jordan of Galveston, Texas.

Beloved wife, Linda Mace (Brown), proceeded him in death on Dec. 14, 2020.

In addition to his wife, Linda, he was proceeded in death by his mother and father, Delbert Cecil Mace Sr. and Maxine Mace (Price); and his siblings, Lynn Mace, Marshall Mace and Crest Short (Mace). (All of whom were also born in Junior) and his son, Dennis Marshall Mace.

“Del” attended High School in Belington, West Virginia and graduated with the class of 1957.

After high school he went on to graduate and receive his ministerial degrees.

His work as a minister took him to many churches and congregations gin a number of cities throughout the Midwest.

He served as the Pastor at eight congregations in six states.

Throughout his life he inspired a number of young men to take their journey into the ministry and spent his life being a true disciple of the word.

His love for and ability to create music inspired many young people in all of his congregations to develop their own love of the joy of music. Many have fond memories of Del playing taps on his trumpet or playing a beautiful old hymn on the piano.

Del enjoyed reading his subscription to The Inter-Mountain newspaper until the day he passed away. It reminder him of his roots and his pride in coming from West Virginia.

The Vermeulen-Sajewski Funeral Home in Plymouth Michigan has been entrusted with the arrangements for Delbert Mace. As per his request his final arrangements are to be handled in a private family gathering.

He will be missed and remembered by many people who loved and respected him as a family member, friend and mentor.
