Frances Hamrick Crickard

CRICKARD

Frances Hamrick Crickard, 86, a resident of Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2025, at the Davis Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Aug. 16, 1938, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mary Hamrick. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Franklin Crickard.

Surviving are sons, Jim Crickard and wife, Betsy, of Bridgeport, West Virginia, Bob Crickard and wife, Penny, of Flemington, West Virginia, John Crickard and wife, Donna, of Elkins, West Virginia; and one daughter, Holly Crickard Rinehart and husband, Rick, of Mannington, West Virginia.

Five grandchildren, Dr. Amber Eakle and husband, Shane, Jimmy Crickard, Dr. Greg Crickard and wife, Tori, Matt Crickard and wife, Taylor, Brooke Ashby and partner, Cole McClanahan; six great-grandchildren, Abbie, Logan and Taylor Eakle, Clara Harper, Malcolm and Elaina Crickard; a brother, Bill Hamrick, sister, Susan Miller; and sister-in-law, Sandy Poling and husband, Lyda, also survive.

Frances was a retired head cook at Third Ward Elementary with the Randolph County School system. She also had worked at Mary’s Greenhouse, where she had a green thumb and a love for flowers. Frances enjoyed giving back to the community and was a member of the Elkins High School Alumni Association, where she served as a former treasurer. She also found laughter and friendship with the ladies of the Red Hat Society. Frances loved her family, was devoted to her children, but it was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the loves of her life. She spoke of them often and with great pride. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, whether it was cooking homemade family dinners, camping, traveling, going to country music concerts, or attending the Forest Festival. Frances’s home was always open serving as a gathering place for family and friends.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 18, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, from funeral home chapel, with Pastor Cindy Roberts officiating.

Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.

The family request memorial contributions be made to the Davis Medical Center Cancer Care Center, 801 Harrison Ave, Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Frances.
