Vernon D. Wamsley

WAMSLEY

Vernon D. Wamsley, 88, a resident of Huttonsville,West Virginia, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2025, at Mountain Memories Assisted Living under the care of West Virginia Caring.

He was born Nov. 24, 1936, at Mingo, West Virginia, a son of the late Adam Simmons Wamsley and Eva Folks Wamsley.

On Jan. 26, 1957, at Huttonsville, West Virginia, he was married to Janis McGee, who preceded him in death Aug. 17, 2025.

He is survived by one son, Donald E. Wamsley (Sheryl) of Ohio; one brother, Clair Wamsley of Mingo; and two grandchildren, Alicia C. Wamsley Wiedemann (Jon) and Jared A. Wamsley.

Also surviving are brother-in-law, Hubert McGee of Yellow Springs, West Virginia; and two sisters-in-law, Marguerite Aills of Alexandria, Virginia, and Nancy Dean of Martinsville, Virginia.

Vernon was a graduate of Tygart Valley High School with the class of 1955.His employment consisted of retiring from the Chevrolet Division of General Motors in Parma, Ohio, having worked as an auto worker and later retiring again from Big Lots in 2007 after working for 14 1/2 years. He was a member of the United Auto Workers and attended the Valley Independent Baptist Church for many years.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2025, at the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville, West Virginia, with Pastor Frank Stanley officiating.

The family request memorial contributions be made to the Valley Independent Baptist Church, P.O. Box 97, Huttonsville, WV 26273 in memory of Vernon.
