Garry H. Regester
REGESTER
Mr. Garry H. Regester, 97, a resident of Buckhannon, West Virginia, departed this life peacefully surrounded by his loving family Saturday evening, Nov. 22, 2025, at the home of his daughter. Death was following a brief period of declining health.
He was born on Oct. 24, 1928 at Hall, West Virginia, in Upshur County, a son of the late Henry David and Annie Suder Regester.
He was united in marriage on Nov. 10, 1948, at Buckhannon, to the former Sylvia Lanham, who preceded him in death on May 7, 2020. They had celebrated 71 years of marriage.
Left to cherish his memory are five children, Mary Maddox and husband, Eugene, Wanetta Conner, Margaret Steiner and husband, Larry, David Regester and wife, Susan, and Hilda Balascio and husband, Thomas; and also, one sister; Tina Lanham. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Garnett P. Regester; a sister, Mary Ellen Carr; and a grandson; Paul Daniel Maddox.
Garry was a graduate from the Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1947 and was a member of the Church of Christ for close to 75 years. Garry was a man of wisdom and strength of body, mind, and character, he lived his life with deep devotion to God.
He was hard working and had an exceptional work ethic. In his younger years he learned taxidermy, engine repair, and wood working skills, of which he excelled. To provide for his family he first worked at a sawmill but later retired after decades of supervising bridge construction.
Garry was very knowledgeable on subjects too numerous to count, from repairing engines, bikes, mowers to home building. He was a dedicated follower of God’s word and faithfully studied the scriptures, effortlessly sharing his learning. Garry made friends wherever he went, and was admired for his many kindnesses, compassion, and humility. He was deeply loved by his family and he loved them very much. He will be greatly missed. Because of his exceptional trust in God, we believe he is rejoicing in heaven.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Friday Nov. 28, 2025, from 11 a.m. – noon when the funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Evangelist Albert Farley officiating. Interment will then follow in the Regester Family Cemetery, Water Camp Community near Belington.
