Ira Junior Vandevender
VANDEVENDER
Mr. Ira Junior Vandevender, 87, a former resident of Harman, West Virginia, passed away Sunday, Dec. 21, 2025, in the Elkins Rehabilitation & Care Center.
He was born April 4, 1938, at Glady, West Virginia, a son of the late Ira S. Vandevender and the late Betty Sponaugle Vandevender.
He had never married.
He is survived by one sister, Ocie Thompson of Glady, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding him in death were several brothers, Emery, Harel, Ron and Don Vandevender; and sisters, Verna Sponaugle, Betty Jane Mallow and Bertha Thompson.
Mr. Vandevender attended the schools of Randolph County and was a laborer at Hinchcliff Lumber prior to his retirement.
Ira was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and sit on his porch and wave to passers by with his brother, Ron.
He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Job, West Virginia.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday from the funeral home chapel.
Pastor Kevin Gainer will officiate.
Interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
