Mary Madeline (Coonts) Ramsey

Our beloved mother Mary Madeline (Coonts) Ramsey, 94, a resident of Belington, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday evening, Jan. 13, 2026, in the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center (ERCC) at Elkins, West Virginia. Death was following a period of declining health.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1931, at Belington, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Ray Harrison and Dove Gainer Coontz.

On Aug. 25, 1949, she was united in marriage to Robert Eugene “Bob” Ramsey, who preceded her in death on Sept. 28, 2016.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughters, Bobbie Sue Ramsey of Belington, West Virginia, with whom she made her home, Pamela Hill and husband, Jeff, of Greer, South Carolina, and Peggy Altmann of Belington, West Virginia; and son-in-law, Bob Bise of Belington, West Virginia.

Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Todd Green and companion, Julie, of Inwood, West Virginia, Robbie Bise of Wilmington, North Carolina, Jason Bise of Belington, West Virginia, Amanda Bise and companion, Scott, of Wilmington, North Carolina, Brice Altmann of Belington, West Virginia, Seth Phillips and companion, Brooke, of Morgantown, West Virginia, Zackary Phillips and wife, Kasee, of Belington, West Virginia, who helped with her care, and Rain Edwards, whom she considered a grandson.

Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Andrew Bise, Jaxson Bise, Emerson Smith and a baby Phillips on the way; and one great-great-grandchild, Alayna Bise.

Additional survivors include a special niece, Missy Tucker Mullan, and her daughters; several other nieces and nephews that she truly loved; and her K-9 companion, Ollie, who was her protector.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one daughter, Esther E. Bise; two brothers, Eddie Coontz and Frederick Coontz; and three sisters, Imogene Chapman, Lucretia “Tootie” Tucker and Elouise Jones.

Mary was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mary attended the schools of Barbour County and was a graduate of the Belington High School with the class of 1949. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed by the Belington IGA as a deli manager. She was a member of the Valley Bend Baptist Church and was a member of the Barbour County CEOS Homemakers Club. She was also formerly a member of the Tygart Valley Rebekah Lodge 181.

Mary loved taking care of her grandchildren and babysitting the young’uns. She was a devoted mother and grandmother; she loved the Lord and raised her daughters to do the same. She was greatly loved by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington, on Friday, Jan. 16, 2026, from noon to 2 p.m., the funeral hour, at which time final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Rick Price officiating.

At Mary’s request her casket will remain closed.

Interment will follow at the Valley Bend Cemetery near Belington.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be given to the Animal Friends of Barbour County (P.O. Box 452 Philippi, WV 26416.)
