The most important website link you have seen this year may well be dhhr.wv.gov/COVID-19.
If you are a West Virginian, you can obtain a free COVID-19 test kit there and have it sent to your home. There, you can get a sample of your saliva at your leisure, send it back to the testing company, and learn within a few days where you are carrying the coronavirus and may be a threat to others -- possibly even in your own family.
Gov. Jim Justice revealed the free in-home testing option this week. It will cost the state $119 per test -- but that will be money well spent. Identifying those who have become carriers of the virus -- often without displaying many symptoms of the disease -- is a key to curbing the epidemic. Knowing whether you have it is important to your own peace of mind, too.
State officials caution that the offer of a free mail-in test will last only as long as funding available for the program holds out. They did not reveal how much money is earmarked for the purpose.
If you even think you may be interested, act quickly, then.
If you use the link, it will take you to the state's COVID-19 website. At the right of the page in a dark blue rectangle, you will see the words FREE Covid-19 In-Home Testing. Just click on that and follow the instructions. Your test kit may arrive within a day or two.
If you have not been tested for COVID-19 recently, we encourage you to take advantage of the state offer.
