Boos & Applause
Applause to the Community Conversation on Domestic Violence hosted by Davis & Elkins College Tuesday evening, with panelists from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Centers Against Violence, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and more. The event, which was held at the Senate Commons in D&E’s Myles Center for the Arts, saw more than 30 students, faculty and community members in attendance and covered a wide range of topics, such as how to break the cycle of domestic violence, the biggest barriers to victims accessing safety, and the role played by state and federal courts.
Applause to the Log Cabin Quilters’ Guild, which annually raises money to make quilts for local people going through dialysis. On Tuesday, the Guild delivered 30 quilts that will be distributed to patients at the Fresenius Kidney Care and Dialysis Center in Elkins. Those in the Guild, and other community members, all have a hand in putting together the quilts, which feature many different styles and designs. Officials said patients receiving the quilts are always appreciative of the generosity of the Log Cabin Quilters’ Guild.
Applause to the new renovation efforts at the Rotary Amphitheater in Elkins Town Square. Landscaping by the outdoors stage, which sits directly behind the Elkins Railyard Depot, had become overgrown, and officials said more room was needed for guests to be able to see the Amphitheater stage. In an attempt to fix both of those issues, the Randolph County Development Authority has decided to make some changes to the Amphitheater during the off-season. Heavy equipment was at work in the Amphitheater this week, taking out some of the landscaping, which will be replaced. New seating will be installed in the space as well, officials said this week.
