ELKINS — Elkins High School’s Cory Harper participated in Stephen Curry’s “Underrated Tour powered by Rakuten” East Regional event held in Washington, D.C., this past weekend.
Harper, a rising junior for the Tigers, was just one of 75 boys chosen to participate in the Washington Tour stop. The other three Tour stops include Dallas (South), Chicago (North) and Los Angeles (West).
The Underrated Tour focuses on players not 4- or 5-star recruits
Harper’s performance at the East Regional led to the EHS standout being invited to attend the Underrated Championships to be held in Oakland, California, in April.
Only eight boys and eight girls from each regional earned a trip to California. The 64 selected players will now compete for two spots (one boy and one girl) at Curry Camp and regional teams will seek to be crowned America’s most underrated region.
“The Tiger family is very proud and extremely happy for Cory,” Elkins High School boys basketball coach Amrit Rayfield said. “He’s very coachable, hard working and an extremely humble young man, so this honor truly couldn’t have happened to a more deserving student-athlete.”
In 2019, former 3-Star high school basketball recruit Curry introduced the inaugural season of the Underrated Tour, a showcase for high school players whose potential is far from being realized and for those who have something to prove and will leave a mark on the sport.
During his pro career, Curry has led the Golden State Warriors to three NBA titles, has been the league’s MVP twice and is a seven-time NBA All-Star.
The son of former NBA player Dell and older brother of current NBA player Seth, Curry played college basketball for the Davidson Wildcats.
He set the all-time scoring record for both Davidson and the Southern Conference and was twice named the conference’s player of the year.
