Colts place first, Elkins third at Tygart Lake

Lady Tiger spikers split pair of matches

GRAFTON — Philip Barbour captured first and Elkins was third in a Big 10 Conference quad- match held Tuesday at the Tygart Lake Golf Course.

Alfred Isch and Sara Simon each carded 44s to share low-medalist honors for the Colts, who finished with a team-score 178.

Mason Halfin and Brayden Cole both shot 45s, while Ethan Gregory a 51 and Landon Wilmoth a 61.

Tanner Miller shot a 47 to lead the Tigers, who tallied a 210, followed by Lucas D’Angelo and Brooke Tallman with 52s, Danica Riggins a 59, Cory Harper a 60 and Thomas Nixon a 68.

“I was really proud of the round Brooke Tallman played today,” Elkins coach Dave Baird said. “She is figuring it out at the right time.”

Grafton was second with a 195 and was led by Dustin Keener with a 47.

Lewis County, which was fourth with a 234, was paced by Emily Lybarger’s 49.

The Tigers will travel to Bridgeport today, before returning home on Monday to host Buckhannon-Upshur and North Marion.

Lady Tigers split

PHILIPPI — The Elkins High volleyball team improved to 3-1 on the season by splitting a pair of matches at the Philip Barbour Big 10 Conference triangular on Wednesday.

The Lady Tigers defeated Lewis County 2-0 (25-14, 25-12) and dropped a 2-0 (9-25, 11-25) verdict to the Lady Colts.

The EHS JV squad lost to Philip Barbour (16-25, 12-25) and to Lewis County (19-25, 21-25).

The Lady Tigers will travel to Buckhannon-Upshur on Wednesday for another tri-match, before hosting Tygarts Valley on Thursday.
