Strong first quarter carries Lady Vikings over Pendleton County

PETERSBURG — Petersburg used a strong first quarter en route to a 49-28 win over Class A, No. 4 Pendleton County on Tuesday night.

The Lady Vikings jumped out to a 24-7 lead after the opening canto and carried a 33-17 advantage into the intermission break.

Each team bucketed six points in the third period and the hosts held a 10-5 scoring edge in the final frame to secure a 21-point win at the final horn.

Shyane Tawney led Petersburg with 14 points, followed by Quenlynn Cole with 13.

Susan Vincell led the Lady Wildcats with nine points.

The Lady Vikings are now 10-10 and will host Pocahontas County on Thursday night.

Pendleton County fell to 11-6 and entertains Moorefield at 4 p.m. today.
