Tigers place second at Bridgeport quad-match
BRIDGEPORT — The young Elkins High School golf team turned in a second-place finish during a quad-match held Thursday at Bridgeport.
The Tigers carded a team-total 175 — 12 strokes behind Bridgeport’s 163.
Keyser (176) was third and Preston (178) fourth.
“We played against some good teams and we were able to squeeze out a second-place finish,” EHS coach Dave Baird said. ” Bridgeport — at their place — is tough to beat. Their top two players Alex (Randolph) and Audrey (Kerr) are ranked in top 10 in the state, so it’s tough to beat them.
Randolph earned low-medalist honors with a 34, while Elkins’ Kendrick Smith and Kerr each shot a 37.
Preston was paced by Robbie Lowe’s 40. Braylen Blowe led Keyser with a 42.
Luca Collier followed Smith with a 43 for the Tigers, followed by Lincoln Fletcher (45), Isaac Shepler and Dreyton Boggs (50s).
“Kendrick and Luca were the only two on our team that had played the course before, so I felt like we did our best,” Baird added. “Kendrick was up to the challenge paired up with Randolph, Lowe (No. 3 in the state) and Ryan (Pratt) from Keyser.
“If Kendrick continues to realize he can play with the top players in the state, he will continue to help himself and our team as the year goes on.”
The Tigers venture to Fairmont Senior on Monday.
