Huskies rally for victory over Colts, 20-13
RACHEL — Philip Barbour’s defense clamped down on North Marion’s high-scoring offense through Friday night’s matchup at Roy Michael Field.
But the Huskies tallied 13 unanswered points inside of 3:19 left in regulation to rally for a 20-13 win.
The Colts used a field goal from freshman Ayden Thorne and a TD pass from Robbie Jones to Malachi Poling to take a 10-7 lead at halftime.
Poling had 139 yards receiving on seven catches on the night.
Both defenses shined in the third quarter as a barrage of punts led to a battle of field position.
A 32-yard field goal by Thorne with 7 minutes left to play treated Philip Barbour to a 13-7 advantage.
But North answered a 9-yard run by Brian Poindexter with 3:19 left to play to take the lead for good at 14-13.
After the Colts turned the ball over on downs deep inside their own territory, the Huskies tacked on a 10-yard run by Toby Michael to push the advantage out to 20-13 with 2:00 remaining.
Philip Barbour again turned the ball over on downs at its own 36-yard line with 1:19 to go and North Marion ran out the remainder of the clock.
Jones was 8 of 14 passing for 149 yards in the setback as neither team was able to establish a running game.
The Colts (2-1) will visit defending Class AAA state champion Bridgeport next Friday, while the Huskies (3-0) travel to Fairmont Senior.
