Cheetahs find success at Ribfest Soccer Tournament

DUNBAR–The Barbour County Youth Soccer U-12 girls team, Cheetahs FC, recently found success at the Ribfest Soccer Tournament held at the Shawnee Sports Complex.

The Cheetahs finished as runner-up in the tournament, dropping a 2-1 decision to eventual champion Mountaineer United Soccer Club from Morgantown.

Joeie Graham had five saves in the loss and Lainey Mayle scored off an assist from Laynie Miller.

The Cheetahs defeated FC Alliance Central, 3-2, as Summer Crosston recorded a hat trick.

Aubrielle Cross had an assist and Bristol Lambert tallied five saves in net.

On Day 2 of the tourney, the Cheetahs claimed a 3-1 win over West Virginia Futbol Club, getting goals from Crosston, Kara Summerfield and Oakley Juser.

Graham had six saves in net and Croston also added an assist.

The Cheetahs defeated KSLV, 10-0, in their final game as Croston scored four goals, Naomi Lasky a hat trick and scores from Summerfield, Quinn Vild and Mayle.

Mayle added an assist, Juser had two helpers and Allie Perkins an assist,

“We had an 8 a.m. game MUSC and were caught napping and they scored in the first 20 seconds of the game,” Cheetahs coach Blake Williams said. “After that, the girls settled down and had chances to score, but we couldn’t get one in. It was a very well-played game and the defense played really well and did so all weekend.

“We played good soccer for most of the weekend and we still have a lot to work on. But I’m pleased how we’ve progressed. It’s a fund group of girls and they play with a lot of heart and love of the game.”
