Colts, Tucker host key games in terms of playoff ratings

ELKINS — Philip Barbour and Tucker County host key contests this evening in regards to the WVSSAC playoff ratings.
The Class AA, third-rated Colts (3-2) battle No. 13 South Harrison (4-1) at George Byrer Field at BC Bank Park.
It will be the first meeting on the gridiron between the schools since 2009.
Philip Barbour halted a two-game skid in last week’s win over Elkins as junior Landyn Carpenter rushed for 201 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Malachi Poling had 148 yards receiving on four catches — scoring three times — while Robbie Jones completed 8 of 15 passes for 191 yards and three TD passes.
The Hawks, meanwhile, suffered their first loss of the season last Friday at Clay County, 37-16.
Junior running back Shepard Paugh and senior quarterback Madden Maxwell lead the South Harrison offense.
At R.H. Armstrong Memorial Field at Class of 1984 Alumni Stadium in Parsons, the seventh-rated Mountain Lions (4-1) square off against No. 4 Pendleton County (3-1) in a Class A showdown.
The Mountain Lions are coming off a 70-6 win over Webster County as Cade Rapp and Lucas Barb each found the end zone twice and quarterback Sam Marks completed 14 of 16 passes for 207 yards and a score.
Reid Kisamore had five receptions for 57 yards and Barb two for 67 yards. Keelyn Eichelberger also had 47 yards receiving.
The Wildcats are coming off a 59-0 home win over Tygarts Valley as quarterback Colton Roberson threw for five touchdowns and ran for another.
At historic East-West Stadium in Fairmont, Buckhannon-Upshur tangles with Class AAA, No. 4 Fairmont Senior (3-1).
Quarterback Dawson Tenney and receiver Jacob Frey led the Bucs in their setback to Elkins two weeks ago.
Tenney finished with over 300 yards passing and 58 yards rushing, while hitting Frey had over 200 yards receiving on 10 receptions and three TDs.
The Polar Bears, coming off a 37-28 loss at Class AAAA, No. 5 University, are led by running back Tarran Boda and quarterback Anthony Smith, who threw for 172 yards and two touchdowns against the Hawks.
Gabe Kubasky was his top target with five catches for 101 yards.
In Thursday night’s action, Elkins defeated visiting Grafton, 35-7, at Tiger Stadium and Tygarts Valley claimed a 29-12 win at Bulldog Field with the 87th Mountain State Forest Festival being celebrated this week.
