WVU injuries keep accumulating, even with the bye week

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia’s injuries keep piling up, even during the bye week.
Rich Rodriguez announced quarterback Nicco Marchiol is officially done for the season with the lingering mid-foot injury that’s kept him out since Kansas. He started in four games this season and led WVU on the comeback against Pitt in the Backyard Brawl.
Marchiol went to a specialist before the Utah game in Colorado to get it checked out, then went to Arizona, where he’s from, to get a second opinion. There were reports that Marchiol would medically redshirt and enter the transfer portal at the end of the season.
During his radio show, Rodriguez hinted that Marchiol was back in Morgantown, trying his best to help out.
Texas A&M transfer and Utah game starter Jaylen Henderson is doubtful, and Charlotte transfer Max Brown doesn’t seem to be playing against UCF. Rodriguez will turn to youngsters Khalil Wilkins and Scotty Fox Jr.
Another big name is also seeing a specialist. Running back Tye Edwards posted on social media that he was in Alabama, and Rodriguez later confirmed Edwards was seeing a specialist for his lingering hip injury. He hasn’t seen much action, but had 100 yards and three touchdowns against Pitt.
Edwards is questionable for UCF. Running backs Diore Hubbard and Cycnir Bowers will see more action if he can’t go.
Marchiol wasn’t the only WVU player Rodriguez announced out for the season. North Carolina transfer linebacker Ashton Woods is out for the year and will have shoulder surgery in the coming days. He played in all six games, recording 15 tackles and a quarterback pressure.
Rodriguez said center Landen Livingston should be back for UCF after being banged up.
“I didn’t kind of get quite as many back as I wanted to,” Rodriguez said.
