B-U, Tucker runners earn all-state honors

ONA — Buckhannon-Upshur’s Joey Nolte placed among the Top 20 in Saturday’s Class AAAA state meet held at Cabell Midland High School.
Nolte, a senior, cleared the course in a time of 17:11.04 to finish 16th and earn all-state second team honors.
The Top 10 finishers in each race and classification were named all-state first team and the 11th through 20th received all-state second-team accolades.
Classmate Alex Sappey was the second Buccaneer to cross the line in 52nd place (18:24.30).
Other B-U finishers included sophomore Kenton Stump (86th, 19:37.30), freshman Mitchell Whitley (91st, 19:50.11), freshman Mason Conway (98th, 20:17.19), freshman Lucas Fortney (101st, 20:55.73) and junior Bryce Mullens (104th, 21:40.24).

Chase
University won the first-ever Class AAAA title for cross country with 56 points and was led by sophomore and individual champion Micah Gainer, who turned in a time of 15:56.16.
In the Class AAAA girls race, B-U placed 12th with 279 points.
The Lady Bucs were led by sophomore Gwendolyn Rogosky, who placed 37th in a time of 21:12.44
Other B-U entries included sophomore Isabella Bowers (41st, 21:39.95), sophomore Lena Rose Walker (68th, 22:59.57), freshman Haleigh Skidmore (23:39.18), sophomore Thea Hens (23:59.38), junior Angelina Winter (91st, 24:43.79), senior Mallory Moss (92nd, 24:46.70)
Host Cabell Midland won the team title with 45 points, while Wheeling Park sophomore Brenna Tipton won the individual crown in a time of 18:16.89.
In the Class A boys race, Tucker County finished fifth with 110 points.
The Mountain Lions were paced by senior Cameron Judy, who placed 10th in a time of 17:41.39.
Senior Lynk Suesli was 11th (17:42.48), followed by senior Alex Collar (26th, 19:03.99), sophomore Draven Bunnell (39th, 19:58.98) and sophomore William Gilligan (42nd, 20:05.92).
Charleston Catholic captured the team crown with 44 points and was led by individual champion Peter Basdekis.
The junior turned in an effort of 16:54.78.
Lady Mountain Lion sophomore Estoria Chase finished fifth (21:38.73) individually in the girls race, while senior Addi Moats was 12th in a time of 22:51.25.
St. Marys won the team title with 57 points and Charleston Catholic senior Arabella Boggs won the individual crown with a time of 19:55.40.
In Class AA, Philip Barbour freshman Jacob Burner was 19th (18:33.53) in running individually.
Doddridge County won the title with 60 points and Tyler Consolidated senior Amos Kimble won the race with an effort of 16:32.76.
Senior Kayla Baker placed 15th (22:22.92) in the girls race as an individual qualifier for the Lady Colts.
Ravenswood senior Riley Sotomayor won the title and Frankfort the team trophy with 66 points.
This was the first season in cross country four champions were crowned — Class AAA, AAA, AA and A.
