Bulldogs fall short to Vikings in season opener
PETERSBURG — Kaleb Kuhn tossed in 30 points to lead Petersburg to a 77-54 win over Tygarts Valley on Friday night in the season opener for both squads.
Kuhn was joined in double figures by Caden Ours with 16 points, Payton Metheny with 13 and Evan Tawney’s 10 markers.
Parker Bell led the Bulldogs 21 points, followed by Jacob Wamsley with 15.
The Vikings led 46-35 at halftime and held a 56-47 advantage after three quarters.
Tygarts Valley then scored the first five points of the final canto to get within four.
“It was a game of runs,” Bulldogs coach Tom Wamsley said. “We would go down 12 to 14 points then run it back to single digits.”
Tygarts Valley had just two points the remainder of the contest after cutting the deficit to 56-52.
“We seemed to hit a wall,” coach Wamsley said of the fourth-quarter scoring drought. “We rushed and missed several open shots.
“The opportunities were there but we just did not hit the open shots.”
The Bulldogs are scheduled to host Union at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Petersburg visits East Hardy the same evening.
