EHS wrestlers have successful season debut; Lady Vikings win

ELENBORO — The Elkins High School wrestling team opened the season with three wins Saturday at Ritchie County.

The Tigers defeated Gilmer County (54-12), Buffalo (54-18) and Ritchie County (48-23).

Scott Twigg (106 pounds), Tucker Twigg (144), Logan Stewart (157), Noah Reel (165), Anthony Isabell (175), Chiron Wing (190) and Isaac Workman (heavyweight) all went 3-0 Elkins on the day, while heavyweight Aiden Vasquez went 2-0.

The Tigers travel to Greenbrier East Saturday for the Morse Reese Memorial Duals.

Petersburg 62, Doddridge County 56

WEST UNION — Three players landed in double figures to lift Petersburg to a 62-56 win over Doddridge County on Saturday.

Aydan Mayfield and Shyane Tawney had 13 points each, while Miley Tinger added 11.

Payton Trent fired in 27 points for the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Vikings scored 20 points in each of the first and second quarters to carry a 40-31 lead into the intermission.

Petersburg (2-0) visits Martinsburg on Tuesday.
