Bridgeport wins title at Big 10 wrestling tourney held at EHS

ELKINS — The Big 10 Conference Wrestling Tournament was held this past Saturday at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.
Bridgeport captured the title with 251 points, while the host Tigers were eighth with 100 points, Buckhannon-Upshur 11th with 56 points and Philip Barbour 12th with 44 points.
Lincoln finished second with 150 points, followed by East Fairmont (130.5), North Marion (125), Lewis County (120), Fairmont Senior (110.5), Robert C. Byrd (104), Elkins, Preston (99), Grafton (97), B-U and Philip Barbour.
The Tigers’ Scott Twigg (19-7) placed second in the 106-pound weight class, falling to Bridgeport’s Evan Root (26-5) in the title match.
Elkins got third-place finishes from Logan Stewart at 157 and Chiron Wing at 190.

Placing sixth were Brennan Daniels (113), Serenity Shifflett (126), Tucker Twigg (144), Antony Isabell (175) and Isaac Workman (285).
For the Bucs, Jeremy Jett (32-9) was runner-up at 126, dropping a pin fall verdict to East Fairmont’s Haydyn Spitznogle (43-2) in the championship bout.
Logan Michaels was fifth at 132, Kyzer Hernandez fifth at 150 and Conner McKim fifth at 215.
Philip Barbour’s Bentley Heldreth was runner-up at 157, as he lost to Bridgeport’s Maddox Pudder in the title bout, while teammate Malachi Cross was third at 285.
Other champions in each class included Bridgeport’s Max Smith (113), TJ Bearden (120), Tyler Mason (138), Kaleb Ice (150), John Knight (165) and Eli Knight (215), Preston’s Levi Jennings (132), East Fairmont’s Blake Ringer (144) and Tony Preolitti (175) and North Marion’s Toby Michael (190) and Gavin Floyd (285).

Special recognition was given to all participation seniors at the tourney, including Elkins’ Logan Stewart and Shyla Dominguez.
Regional action takes place on Saturday, with berths to the state tournament on the line.
The Tigers and Colts venture to Braxton County for the Division II, Region II tourney.
Other teams slated to compete include host Braxton County, Berkeley Springs, East Hardy, Frankfort, Grafton, Hampshire, Keyser, Lewis County, Lincoln, Moorefield, Notre Dame, Petersburg, Robert C. Byrd, Roane County and South Harrison.
B-U, meanwhile, travels to Wheeling Park for the Division 1, Region I tourney, competing against host Wheeling Park, Bridgeport, Brooke, Fairmont Senior, John Marshall, Morgantown, Preston and University.
