Tigers drop decisions to ranked Indians, Bucs
ELKINS — Elkins High’s tough stretch of opponents continued on Tuesday night, dropping a 49-39 decision to defending Class AAA state champion and No. 3 Bridgeport at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.
The Tigers, who also lost at Class AAAA, No. 8 Buckhannon-Upshur, are now 2-11 and face Class AAAA, No, 10 Cabell Midland at 7 p.m. Thursday at West Virginia State.
Anderson McDougal fired in 27 points for the Indians, who led 22-17 at halftime and 36-30 after three quarters in Tuesday night’s Big 10 Conference matchup.
Isaiah Nutter had 17 points and Dreyton Boggs and Landon Shreve 10 apiece to lead the Tigers, who were battling their third straight team ranked in the Coaches Poll.
They lost to Class AA, No. 7 Charleston Catholic Saturday evening at home.
“The kids are really battling,” EHS coach Amrit Rayfield. “There’s just a small margin for error against good teams.”
On Monday evening, Jerin Westfall fired in 32 points to lead the Bucs to a 61-44 win over the visiting Tigers.
Xavier Robinette added 18 points for B-U, which led 32-13 at halftime and 51-34 after three quarters.
The Bucs led 18-10 after one quarter of action.
Nutter had 18 points and Shreve added 11 for Elkins.
B-U (11-5) visits Grafton this evening for a Big 10 contest.
