An eventful trip to the Lexington car show

This Saturday night will close out the 2018 racing season at Elkins Raceway. The Festival 40 will feature racing in all five classes, with $2,000 to win in the Jenkins Ford Super late models, The Budweiser FasTrack Crate late models will run for $1,200 to win and there will be increased purses in all the divisions. The final race of the 2018 season at Elkins Raceway is two weekends away. Make your plans to be at the track Saturday evening on Sept. 29 for the Festival 40 for the super late models and larger purses in all the other divisions. Gates will open one hour earlier than normal at 5 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. Admission will remain $15 for adults and free for children under 12 with a paying adult. Several hunting seasons open this month

September is the opening of some of the popular hunting seasons in West Virginia. The statewide squirrel season opened last Saturday. In Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming counties, a special black bear gun season came in on Sept. 1 and will close this Sunday. The statewide black bear and deer archery and crossbow seasons will come in on Sept. 29. These seasons will stay in through Dec. 31. First of all, there will be no racing this weekend at Elkins Raceway. There has been an announcement that the final race of the 2018 season will be Saturday, Sept. 29. The season-ending Festival 40 Race will feature the Jenkins Ford Super Late Models running for $2,000 to win. There’s not been any news as of press time about the prospective race on Sept. 14 or 15 at Elkins Raceway. The one-day statewide youth squirrel season is today. The nation's youth are simply the future of all sport hunting nationwide. There are several people who are eager to say that sport hunting is a dying sport. From the latest figures that I've observed, for every 100 adult hunters, there are only 70 children (under 15) who are learning about this sport or outdoor activity. This is a situation that needs to be reversed or sport hunting could be close to being a dead outdoor activity by the year 2050.
