EHS soccer teams eliminated from regional tournament
CLARKSBURG — Third-seed Elkins dropped a 4-2 verdict to No. 2 Robert C. Byrd in the Class AAA, Region II semifinals on Saturday.
The Tigers ended the season with a 13-4-3 record.
The Flying Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Chase Davis and A.J. Carver in the 7th and 11th minute, respectively.
RCB extended its lead to 3-0 at halftime on a goal by Owen Dodd.
But Elkins answered early into the second half on a goal by Hayden Ferguson.
A score by Ethan Lake, however, extended the margin back to 4-1,
Tucker Cutright tacked on a goal for the Tigers late in the match to set the final at 4-2.
RCB advances to face top-seed Bridgeport Wednesday at Wayne Jamison Field for the regional title and state berth.
The fourth-seeded Lady Tigers also were eliminated from the tourney in a hard-fought 2-0 setback at top-seed Bridgeport on Saturday.
Lindsey Callahan tallied both goals for the Lady Indians, who entertain No. 2 Robert C. Byrd on Wednesday in the title game.
In Class AA-A, Region II semifinal play on Saturday, fifth-seed Philip Barbour dropped a 10-0 verdict at top-seed Lincoln.
The Lady Cougars will now host second-seed Berkeley Springs Tuesday in the regional championship.
Berkeley Springs defeated third-seed Pocahontas County, 1-0, in Saturday’s other semifinal.
The PB boys were eliminated, 9-1, by Frankfort in Wednesday’s quarterfinals.
The top-seeded Falcons dealt No. 5 Petersburg a 2-0 defeat in Saturday’s semifinals and will now host No. 3 Trinity Christian for the title on Tuesday evening.
In the Class AAAA, South Region tourney, ninth-seed Buckhannon-Upshur was eliminated on penalty kicks by eighth-seed Parkersburg South on Thursday.
Top-seed Woodrow Wilson advanced to the regional title game with a 4-0 victory over Parkersburg South on Saturday and entertains No. 4 George Washington in one of Thursday’s regional finals.
Second-seed Hurricane hosts third-seed Huntington in the other regional title game.
The sixth-seeded Lady Bucs fell to No. 3 Hurricane, 4-0, in Saturday’s regional semifinal.
Hurricane visits No. 2 Oak Hill in Thursday’s championship match.
