Historic Hawaii floods leave 2,000 people without power

HONOLULU (AP) — More than 2,000 people remained without power Sunday afternoon after Hawaii suffered its worst flooding in more than 20 years when heavy rains fell across the islands. Heavy rains fell on soil already saturated by downpours from a winter storm a week ago. Raging waters lifted homes and cars, causing an expected $1 billion in damages. The storm prompted evaluation orders for 5,500 people north of Honolulu — though they were later lifted — and more than 200 people were rescued from the rising waters. No deaths have been reported as of yet, Molly Pierce, spokesperson ...

When your child becomes the landlord

Dear Annie: I live with my almost-30-year-old daughter. She acquired our place through a lawsuit settlement. She talks to and treats me like I’m a child and tries to control my life. She often reminds me: “This is my place. I run things.” I could go on and on, but the bottom line is that she constantly makes me feel uneasy in what’s supposed to be my home. Rent is too ...

Over 4,000 told to evacuate flooding in Hawaii

HONOLULU (AP) — Muddy floodwaters from severe rains inundated streets, pushed homes off their foundations, swallowed vehicles and prompted evacuation orders for thousands of residents in towns north of Honolulu on Friday as officials warned of the possible failure of a 120-year-old dam.
