The NCAA is warning schools about travel issues ahead of March Madness. It’s not the first time

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Atlantic 10 commissioner Bernadette McGlade skimmed through the 12-page memo the NCAA sent out last month that highlighted potential travel issues ahead of the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and couldn’t help but feel a bit of deja vu. McGlade spent time on both the men’s and women’s selection committees earlier in her career, including a stint as the tournament director for women’s March Madness. What she read in that memo was nothing new. “We had the same conversations, ‘Oh, these charters are hired (away). We might not be able to ...

Running back White to sign with the Commanders

(AP) — Rachaad White is leaving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after veteran receiver Mike Evans also departed, and the running back hopes joining close friend Jayden Daniels is the right next step in his NFL career. White signed with the Washington Commanders on Friday, not long after Evans joined the San Francisco 49ers. He’s reuniting with Daniels, the franchise quarterback who he became tight with when they were playing together at Arizona State in 2020 and ‘21. Daniels’ presence was a draw, but so was the chance to be part of an offense with the potential to be dynamic. After ...

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State elevated its chief academic officer to president Thursday, moving swiftly past the abrupt resignation of former President Walter “Ted” Carter Jr. following revelations about his “inappropriate relationship” with the female host of a podcast for military veterans. Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Executive Vice President and Provost Ravi Bellamkonda as Carter’s successor — bypassing the traditional nationwide search — and Ohio State’s fourth president since 2020. The trustees want what’s best for the university, board chair ...

President Donald Trump announced the change in a social media post on Friday after it was first reported by Axios. The president said Matt Floca, who manages the Kennedy Center’s facilities operations, will succeed Grenell. The moves are expected to be finalized at a board meeting scheduled for Monday at the White House, ...

U.S. faces elevated terrorism threats

WASHINGTON (AP) — In New York City, two men who federal authorities say were inspired by the Islamic State brought powerful homemade bombs to a protest outside the mayoral mansion. In Michigan, a naturalized citizen from Lebanon rammed his vehicle into a synagogue before being shot by security. In Virginia, a man previously imprisoned on a terrorism conviction was heard yelling “Allahu akbar” before opening fire at a university in an attack that officials said ended when the shooter was killed by students. The three acts of ideologically inspired violence in the last week have ...
