ELKINS — Randolph Technical Center students took part in a skills competition hosted by SkillsUSA Tuesday afternoon.
RTC students displayed their abilities in fields including Crime Scene Investigation, Electrical Construction-wiring, Commercial Baking & Culinary Arts, Health Occupations, Auto Technology, Collision Repair, Cabinet Making, Welding Fabrication, Carpentry, Motorcycle Service and Power Equipment Service.
“A lot of people don’t get to see what goes on inside the Tech Center,” Jeremy Cager, an RTC student, said Tuesday afternoon. “Most think we are just books and pencils. This shows what all we can actually do.”
All courses offered are complete courses, meaning the student will be certified by completing the course. This is the first time in 20 years that the Technical Center has offered a local competition before sending representatives to the state competition in Fairmont later this year.
This gives the students an opportunity to be judged on their work before competing in Fairmont. Students can earn college scholarships by excelling in the state competition.
