Reader remembers fondly days gone by

I wish the world was like it was when I was a little girl. Kids would work right along with their parents. When I was 28 years ago, I had been working for 18 years.

These kids of today don’t know what work is. They only want to work only a half a day, if that.

I would love to see them work in a hay field or carry coal buckets to the house or an arm load of wood for the stove to keep you warm or for your mother to cook on.

Then in the spring of the year, plant the garden with your parents. In the summer, pull up weeds and make hay.

I would love to see these grownups of 20 to 30 years old get up at 3 a.m. to milk the cows by hand or feed the pigs, chickens, horses and dogs. There is only about 5 percent, if that, that could ever do that in a day.

Oh, well.

Everyone have a Happy New Year 2019.
