Born Mary Margaret Slayton in 1938 to Clarence Richard Slayton ( Jack) and Edna Naomi Shreve Slayton in Elkins, West Virginia, Mary passed away peacefully in her sleep on Nov. 19, 2024, at the age of 85 surrounded by her family at home.
Mary graduated Elkins High School and went on to earn her degree as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary's School of Nursing in Huntington, West Virginia.
While working at Davis Memorial Hospital, Mary met and married Michael Peter Weinreb (Mickey) of Teaneck, New Jersey.
Mary moved around the country with her husband, a U.S. Forest Service civil engineer, working as a surgical nurse. She lived and worked in West Virginia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Vermont and back to West Virginia.
She retired from the Louis A. Johnson VA Hospital in Clarksburg, West Virginia, and eventually she moved to Chicago, Illinois, and then to McMinnville, Oregon, to be near her children.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Edna, and father Jack; husband, Mickey; sister, Kimberly; and granddaughter, Elizabeth.
She leaves behind three children, Michael Weinreb, Mimi Weinreb and Frank Bradley; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Mary also leaves behind her sister, Barbara Judy, of Elkins, West Virginia.
As per Mary's wishes, her ashes will be scattered with her husband's in the hills of West Virginia. Both Mary and Mickey fiercely loved West Virginia.
